  2. DESIGNER'S  CLUB  USER'S  GUIDE

  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to use your 
  5. computer and the programs you have purchased for it.
  6.  
  7. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  8. -------------------
  9. Designer's Club images require application(s) that are compatible with the EPS 
  10. file format. EPS images are saved as Adobe Illustrator 3.0 or 5.0/5.5 files. Filenames
  11. that contain the letter "V" are saved as Adobe Illustrator 5.0/5.5. Any other 
  12. hardware requirements will be based primarily on the applications you use and 
  13. the type of final output you plan to produce. For best results, your printer 
  14. should be PostScript compatible.

  18. ** Printed Pictorial Index **
  19. This provides thumbnail and file name for each image in the issue.

  21. EXTENSIS PORTFOLIO BROWSER (Windows 95/NT)
  22. ------------------------------------------
  23. The Extensis Portfolio Browser included on this CD allows you to view thumbnails 
  24. and file names for the images included on this CD. The browser can also be used 
  25. to search for images on the CD by entering keywords and descriptions and allows 
  26. you to view a larger preview of an image or copy an original image to your hard 
  27. drive. No installation is required to use the Extensis Portfolio Browser. Simply open 
  28. the "Extensis Portfolio Browser" folder and double-click on "Portfolio 
  29. Browser.exe". Once the browser opens, a dialog box will appear. Click once on 
  30. the "Up One Level" Button (this button looks like a folder with an up arrow 
  31. inside of it) and choose the catalog you want to open.

  33. Current month Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the images in the 
  34. current month's Designer's Club package.

  36. Current web Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the web images in the 
  37. current month's Designer's Club package.

  39. Current year Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the images from January 
  40. of the current year through the present.

  42. Current year web Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the web images from 
  43. January of the current year through the present.

  45. In the Extensis Portfolio Browser folder is a file called "Portfolio 3.0 Browser QSG.pdf" 
  46. this file contains instructions on how to use the Portfolio Browser. The Adobe« Acrobat 
  47. Reader must be installed on your computer first in order to view any Acrobat (PDF) files.

  54. The Adobe« Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer first in order to 
  55. view any Acrobat (PDF) files.

  57. The installation program for "Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.01" can be found in the Adobe Acrobat
  58. folder located in the "Extensis Portfolio Browser" folder. Windows 3.1 users should use the
  59. 16-bit installer (ar16e301.exe) and Windows 95 users should use the 32-bit installation program
  60. (ar32e301.exe). Double-click the file to run the installer.

  66. A WARNING TO COLOR USERS
  67. -------------------------
  68. The nature of color in desktop publishing is unpredictable. The way a color 
  69. image looks on screen does not necessarily reflect the way it will look when it 
  70. is printed, and different output devices and types of paper may produce 
  71. different results. We recommend that you contact your service bureau and printer 
  72. so that they can insure the kind of color reproduction you need.

  75. USING THE CLIP ART
  76. ------------------
  77. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  78. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the EPS file as 
  79. you would any other images. The following page layout programs are compatible 
  80. with the EPS file format:
  81.     *PageMaker
  82.     *QuarkXpress        
  83.         
  84. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  85. Open your draw program and OPEN or IMPORT the EPS file. These images can be manipulated 
  86. like any other EPS image. The following draw programs are compatible with the 
  87. EPS file format:
  88.     *Adobe Illustrator
  89.     *FreeHand
  90.     *Corel Draw! (Import)
  91. Many of your Designer's Club EPS images are provided as layered illustrations. 
  92. This means that several elements can be lifted out of a single image and used as 
  93. stand-alone artwork. In order to pull apart or separate the layers of an EPS 
  94. file, a PostScript draw program like Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand is 
  95. necessary.
